Explore chord palettes, recall your own saved chords, or work through a song chart. Keep the harmony at your fingertips instead of buried in a menu.

02 / SHAPE

Change the feeling.

Try a different voicing. Move an inversion. Spread the notes into another register. The same chord can become an entirely different conversation.

03 / PLAY

Make it your own.

Play a whole chord, pick out a bass note, or explore eight ascending strings. Add a strum or a rhythmic pattern, then send the parts to your MIDI instruments.

02 — WHY 37?

A different move.
A different
possibility.

An 8 × 8 study. A nod to Go, not a match diagram.

The name began with Move 37: AlphaGo's unexpected move against Lee Sedol in their second game in 2016.

That moment suggested a way of seeing possibilities beyond the familiar. Then the controller's 8 × 8 grid brought a Go board to mind. Those two ideas became reChord37.

Not a Go-playing engine. Not an AI composing your music. An invitation to approach harmony differently, with a grid under your hands and room to find something you weren't looking for.

The instrument is being developed on Mac with Push 1 today. But the bigger idea isn't tied to a laptop: turn grid controllers into reChord37.

A VISION IN DEVELOPMENT

Imagine a small device that plugs into a Push, runs reChord37, and makes that controller an instrument in its own right.

That device would act as a USB host: the little computer running the instrument and talking to the controller. A Raspberry Pi-style box, or a compatible tablet or phone, could be a route worth exploring.

The architecture isn't settled. Android and iOS are possibilities to investigate, not supported platforms or promised products. Power, USB connectivity, audio and MIDI all need real-world testing.

No hardware product, release date, preorder or download is being announced. The ambition is real; the route is still taking shape.

05 — GOOD QUESTIONS

Is reChord37 hardware or software?

Today, it's software running on a Mac, developed with Ableton Push 1. The longer-term goal is a compact USB host running reChord37 directly with a grid controller. That hardware approach is still exploratory.

Does it make its own sounds?

Its main job is generating and performing MIDI notes for your instruments. There is a simple browser sound preview, but reChord37 isn't a full synthesizer or a sample library.

Do I need to know music theory?

You can start by choosing a chord and listening. Familiarity with chords helps, but exploring their sound and movement is part of the point.

What about a Raspberry Pi, tablet or phone?

Today, an iPad can display the browser companion while the Mac runs the instrument. A Raspberry Pi-style host, Android device or iOS device running the instrument itself is a future possibility to investigate. Compatibility and performance have not been established.

Can I buy or download it yet?

Not yet. reChord37 is in development. Pricing, availability and release details haven't been announced. This is a project introduction, not a crowdfunding campaign.

Will it work with every grid controller?

That is not a promise we can make. Development currently centres on Push 1. Supporting other grids would mean adapting their controls, displays and MIDI behaviour, then testing each setup.

Is this an Ableton product?

No. reChord37 is an independent project. Ableton and Push are trademarks of their respective owners; no affiliation or endorsement is implied.
